PARLIAMENT SUSPENDS SITTINGS FOR THREE WEEKS DUE TO COVID-19 INFECTIONS

Parliament suspends sitting for three weeks over more covid-19 infections recorded in the house.

Per reports, 17 Members of Parliament and over 150 staff have contracted the virus.

According to Speaker of Parliament, A.S.K Bagbin, The House will resume sittings on March 2, 2021.
However, the Appointments Committee shall be allowed to vet the ministerial nominees beginning Wednesday, February 10, 2021.

A.S.K Bagbin earlier announced on Thursday, February 4, 2021, that “only members of Parliament and members of staff who are needed for the business of the House will be allowed in the precincts of Parliament from next week.”

This was when 15 MPs and 50 parliamentary staff had contracted COVID-19.

For the infected MPs, “all the 15 members have been contacted and advised to self-isolate. They have also been given prescriptions to facilitate their recovery.”
